I Sugarhill Gang sono un gruppo hip hop statunitense, celebre per il brano Rapper's Delight, il primo pezzo hip hop a giungere nella Top 40 delle classifiche statunitensi.

Grazie alla produttrice discografica Sylvia Robinson, fondatrice dell'etichetta Sugar Hill Records il gruppo registrò Rapper's Delight, un successo che vendette più di 8 milioni di copie nel mondo.

In seguito registrarono altri brani che non raggiunsero la notorietà del primo fra cui 8th Wonder, dopo un periodo di oblio tornarono sulle scene nel 1999 con l'LP Jump On It.

Nel 2009 Wonder Mike e Master Gee collaborano con il dj Bob Sinclar per LaLa Song, brano che riporta gli Sugarhill Gang alla fama di un tempo e si piazza subito come hit alle vendite e colonna sonora dell'estate del 2009.

La Sugarhill Gang fa una breve apparizione nel telefilm statunitense Scrubs, dove si esibiscono con Rapper's Delight.

L'11 novembre 2014, Michael “Wonder Mike” Wright e Guy “Master Gee” O’Brien comunicano al sito TMZ che Hank Jackson, ovvero Big Bank Hank, è morto, a New York, all'età di 57 anni.

The Sugarhill Gang is an American hip hop group, known mostly for its 1979 hit "Rapper's Delight," the first rap single to become a Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The song uses an interpolation of the instrumental track from the hit "Good Times" by Chic as its foundation.

The members, all from Englewood, New Jersey consisted of Michael "Wonder Mike" Wright, Henry "Big Bank Hank" Jackson, and Guy "Master Gee" O'Brien. The three were assembled into a group by producer Sylvia Robinson, who founded Sugar Hill Records with her husband, record mogul Joe Robinson. The group and the record company are named after the Sugar Hill, Harlem neighborhood.

The Sugarhill Gang never again topped the US charts, though it had a slew of European hits, such as "Apache", "8th Wonder" (which was performed on the American music show Soul Train in 1981), "Rapper's Reprise (Jam Jam)", and "Showdown" (with the Furious Five). In 1999, the trio reunited and recorded Jump on It! a hip hop children's album.

In recent years, original members of the Sugarhill Gang have performed as the Original Sugar and as Rapper's Delight Featuring Wonder Mike and Master Gee. On November 11, 2014, Big Bank Hank died at the age of 59 after a long battle with cancer.

Joseph Robinson Jr., son of Joseph and Sylvia, also a member of The Sugarhill Gang, died from cancer in Tenafly, New Jersey, on 11 July 2015 at age 53.
