Toto Cutugno nasce a Fosdinovo (in Toscana, nella provincia di Massa), dopo pochi mesi la sua famiglia si trasferisce a La Spezia (in Liguria), dove il padre era maresciallo di marina. Fin da bambino Toto dimostra molta predisposizione per la musica, il padre ottimo 

suonatore di tromba, lo incoraggia e Toto inizia cosi da autodidatta a studiare la batteria, la sua bravura gli permette, ancora ragazzino, di entrare in gruppi musicali locali, nel frattempo impara a suonare anche la fisarmonica a tredici anni partecipa ad un concorso regionale 

dove arriva terzo. Toto prosegue a suonare la batteria con gruppi locali fino a 19 anni, poi si accorge che la vita di provincia inizia ad andargli stretta, entra cosi, a far parte del gruppo 

musicale del maestro Manusardi, che gli propone una tournée di sei mesi in Finlandia. Tornato in Italia, Toto costituisce un suo gruppo, che chiama “Toto e i Tati”, inizia cosi a girare i locali di tutta la penisola, con un repertorio di successi e di brani da lui composti.

Nel 75 Toto, che ha già iniziato da qualche anno a scrivere canzoni per suo conto, ottiene grandissimo successo come compositore in Francia, dove una sua canzone viene incisa da Joe Dassin con il titolo “L’été Indien” e diventa ben presto un successo internazionale.

Nel 76 la fama come autore viene riaffermata dall’incisione, sempre da parte di Joe Dassin, di un altro suo brano, ”Et si tu n’existais pas”, da quel momento le richieste si moltiplicano: Toto scrive canzoni per Mireille Mathieu, Dalida, Johnny Halliday, Michel Sardou, Claude 

François, Hervé Vilard, Sheila in Francia, Domenico Modugno, Gigliola Cinquetti, Ornella Vanoni in Italia, le sue canzoni,oltre che da questi cantanti, vengono eseguite da grandi orchestre come, F.Pourcel, Caravelli e P. Mauriat. Sempre nel 76 Toto partecipa, per la 

prima volta, al Festival di Sanremo con il gruppo da lui formato, gli “Albatros", il brano in gara è “Volo AZ 504” classificandosi terzo. Lo stesso anno Toto partecipa al Festivalbar con il brano “Nel cuore nei sensi” ottenendo un ottimo successo, lo stesso brano viene inciso in Francia da Gérard Lenorman, che arriva ai vertici delle classifiche.

Nel 77 gli Albatros si ripresentano al Festival di Sanremo con una canzone sempre composta da Toto, “Gran Premio”, che si classifica al quinto posto.

Nel 78 l'attività artistica di Toto riceve una svolta importante, lasciati gli Albatros, incide come "cantautore" il brano “Donna donna mia”, sigla del programma televisivo 

“Scommettiamo” condotto da Mike Bongiorno, raggiungendo i vertici della hit parade, nello stesso periodo Toto scrive la prima canzone per Adriano Celentano, dal titolo “Soli”, che rimane per mesi stabile al primo posto nelle classifiche delle vendite.

Nel 79 Toto incide il suo primo LP dal titolo “Voglio l’anima”, i cui brani vengono successivamente incisi da vari artisti, sia italiani che stranieri.

Nel 80 Toto raggiunge grandissimi successi: è Primo al Festival di Sanremo con il brano “Solo noi”, e primo al Festival “Yamaha Song International” di Tokyo con il brano “Francesca non sa”, e anche primo come compositore al Festivalbar con il brano “Olimpic 

games” interpretato da Miguel Bosé”, e quarto come cantautore sempre al Festivalbar con il brano “Innamorati”. Sempre nel 1980 scrive tutte le canzoni dello LP “Il tempo se ne va” per Adriano Celentano, album che ottiene grandissimo successo, lo stesso anno incide “Flash”, sigla del programma televisivo omonimo condotto da Mike Bongiorno.

Nel 81 viene pubblicato il suo secondo LP dal titolo “La mia musica”, anche questo di grande successo, con brani incisi da vari artisti internazionali. Nell' 83 Toto ritorna al Festival di Sanremo con il brano "L’italiano" dove giunge primo nella votazione popolare 

legata al concorso Totip, brano che viene inciso e tradotto da vari artisti in diverse lingue, vendendo milioni di dischi, e rendendo popolare Toto in paesi impensabili come Israele, Iran, Corea. Nell' 84 Toto, ritorna a Sanremo con il brano “Serenata” arrivando secondo.

Nell' 85 partecipa nuovamente al Festival di Sanremo, però soltanto come compositore, con due sue canzoni, una interpretata da Louis Rodriguez “C’est Venice”, e un’altra interpretata 

da Luis Miguel, un ragazzo messicano di 15 anni che con il brano “Noi, ragazzi di oggi” che si classifica seconda ed è la vera rivelazione del Festival. Nell' 1985 Toto pubblica il singolo “Mi piacerebbe andare al mare il lunedì”.

Il 1986 per Toto inizia alla grande, ricevendo un premio per “L’italiano” come disco italiano più’ venduto nel mondo negli ultimi cinque anni; si ripresenta al Festival di Sanremo con il brano “Azzurra malinconia”. Nell'87 Toto partecipa nuovamente al Festival di Sanremo, sia 

come cantautore con il brano “Figli” classificandosi secondo, sia come autore con i brani “Io amo” cantato da Fausto Leali, con “Canzone d’amore” cantata dai Ricchi & Poveri, con “Il 

sognatore” cantata da Peppino di Capri“ e con “Io...per le strade di quartiere” cantata da Franco Califano. Nella primavera dello stesso anno viene pubblicato il terzo album di Toto intitolato “Mediterraneo” che sarà’ premiato con disco d’oro e di platino.

Il 1987 rappresenta un’altra svolta per Toto: diviene conduttore del programma televisivo “Domenica In” in cui debutta con grande successo, nello stesso periodo partecipa al Festival di Sanremo nell' 88 con il brano “Emozioni”, da lui interpretato, arrivando secondo, inoltre, come autore, presenta una rinnovata Fiordaliso con il brano “Per noi”.

Nel 89, fra tournée e spettacoli televisivi, ritorna al Festival di Sanremo come interprete con il brano “Le mamme”, classificandosi al secondo posto, e come autore con le canzoni scritte per Fiordaliso “Se non avessi te” e per Stefano Borgia (secondo tra i giovani). In autunno 

conduce il programma “Piacere Raiuno” dove ottiene un nuovo grande successo, pubblica anche il suo terzo LP, una raccolta di sigle televisive e canzoni sanremesi dal titolo “Toto Cutugno”.

Nel 90 Toto ottiene ancora un secondo posto al Festival di Sanremo con il brano “Gli amori” che, in quell’ occasione, viene cantato anche dal grande Ray Charles che si esibisce con una eccezionale interpretazione. Sempre nel 90 ottiene un grande successo vincendo a Zagabria l’Eurofestival con il brano “Insieme 1992”.

Nel 91 insieme a Gigi Sabani conduce il programma televisivo “Piacere Raiuno” inoltre, presenta l’edizione italiana dell’Eurofestival svoltasi a Roma, insieme a Gigliola Cinquetti, quali unici vincitori italiani della manifestazione. Sempre nel 91 conduce con Raffaella Carra’ e Fabrizio Frizzi la trasmissione televisiva della Rai “La vela d’oro”.

Nel 92 viene pubblicato l’ LP “Non é facile essere uomini” in estate è conduttore del programma Rai “Stasera mi butto”e in autunno “Domenica In”. Nel frattempo, scrive una canzone dal titolo “Se mi ami” che Claudia Mori presenta al Festival di Sanremo.

Nel 1995 Toto si ripresenta al Festival di Sanremo, con il brano “Voglio andare a vivere in campagna”, che é anche il titolo dell’album uscito contemporaneamente.

Nel 96 Toto conduce per Telemontecarlo il programma “Sei forte”.

Nel 97 Toto si ripresenta al Festival di Sanremo con un brano dal titolo “Faccia pulita”, brano che è inserito nell’album “Canzoni nascoste”

E poi 1998: a Settembre ritorno in televisione (RAI 2) con il programma "I fatti vostri".

1999 Riprende in TV con "I fatti vostri" sino a tutto Giugno 2000, poi inizia un giro di concerti in Russia, Canada, Belgio, ecc.

2001 Toto entra in studio per realizzare un nuovo CD. Che si chiamerà “Il treno Va”. “Il treno Va”, nel giugno 2002, esce in Francia e in tutto il mondo di lingua francese ottenendo un grosso riscontro di vendite.

2003 "Il treno va" esce nelle altre parti del mondo ove non era ancora stato pubblicato, quindi Cutugno trascorre tutto il 2003 in giro per il mondo tra promozione e concerti.

Nel 2004 Toto, insieme a Paola Perego, conduce per la RAI il programma “Sanremo estate”. Nel frattempo entra in sala di registrazione per realizzare, sempre per l’estero, una raccolta di brani da lui scritti e, nei vari periodi, interpretati da star internazionali.

Realizza una raccolta in italiano con l'impronta dell’autore dal titolo “Cantando”; contemporaneamente in Francia un suo brano, “Voglio l’anima”, diventa la sigla del programma televisivo francese “Saranno famosi” e rimane per diverse settimane ai vertici della hit parade.

In considerazione del grande successo che continua ad ottenere in Francia gli vengono proposti dei concerti con inizio a Febbraio 2005 dall’Olimpià di Parigi, ma questo tour viene rimandato, perché nel frattempo arriva il Festival di Sanremo, manifestazione a cui Toto è 

molto legato. Toto scrive la canzone dal titolo “Come noi nessuno al mondo”, un brano pieno di sentimento e molto romantico, nel realizzarla sente però che manca un qualcosa e dopo varie prove e provini scopre che quello che mancava era la grande voce di Annalisa Minetti.

Il nuovo CD di Toto uscirà in corrispondenza del Festival, distribuito dalla Edel, con il titolo “Come noi nessuno al mondo”.

Dopo il Festival di Sanremo Toto riprende i suoi tour al di fuori dell'Italia riservando molte serate ai diversi paesi dell'Est in cui la sua voce e le sue melodie diventano ambasciatrici 

della cultura musicale italiana nel mondo.

Il 2008 è l'anno in cui Toto offre al pubblico una splendida canzone per Sanremo, "Un falco chiuso in gabbia", ed un CD composto esclusivamente da pezzi inediti.

In occasione del Festival, Toto ospita Annalisa Minetti per cantare il nuovo brano a due voci. L'emozione suscitata è stata grande e per questo, nel CD, gli appassionati trovano entrambe le versioni del pezzo: due modi diversi per percepire le medesime sensazioni.

Dopo il Festival Toto continua a girare il mondo.

Nel 2009 Toto entra in vari periodi in sala di registrazione, dove sta preparando un nuovo CD che uscirà nel 2010, per festeggiare i 40 anni come autore e 30 anni come cantante.

L’anno 2010 Toto inizia con un’altra partecipazione al Festival di Sanremo con il brano “Aeroplani”. Per la serata dei duetti lui sceglie un ospite speciale, una showgirl famosissima, protagonista del gossip Belen Rodriguez.

Subito dopo il Sanremo 2010 esce una meravigliosa raccolta (CD+DVD) del nostro Maestro intitolata “I miei 15 Sanremo”. Un vero tesoro per un fan del Grande della musica italiana che fa parte della storia del Festival stesso.

Toto non può stare fermo neanche un minuto, tutto il 2010 gira il mondo facendo dei concerti di grande successo.

Il 30 novembre 2010 esce un altro pezzo da collezione una raccolta stupenda di 3 CD dei 55 brani rarissimi intitolata “Ritratto”.

Toto Cutugno was born in Fosdinovo (in Toscana, in province of Massa). Some months later the family moves to La Spezia (in Liguria), where the father sees service in the navy as a sergeant. Since his childhood Toto shows a good aptitude for music. The father that plays 

the trumpet perfectly encourages him and Toto, in such a way, starts to study playing the percussion instruments by himself. His skills allow him to be a member of local music groups being a boy yet. Meanwhile, he studies playing the harmonicon and at the age of 

thirteen he takes part in a regional competition and comes third. Toto continues playing the percussion instruments being a member of local music groups till the age of nineteen, then he understands, that the province life, day by day, becomes too tight for him. And now he is 

a member of maestro Manusardi’s group, who offers him a six moth’s tour to Finland. Having returned to Italy he founds his own group entitled “Toto and Tati”. In such a way, he starts to travel the restaurants and bars of the whole peninsular with a repertory of well-known songs and his own compositions.

In 1975 Toto, who for some years has started to write for himself, achieves a stunning success as a composer in France, where one of his songs “Indian Summer” was recorded by Joe Dassin. Very soon it will become an international hit.

In 1976 he confirms his fame of an author again thanks to the same Joe Dassin, who has recorded a new hit “If there would not be You”. Since that moment the quantity of requests to write a song increases and Toto writes for Mireille Mathieu, Dalida, Johnny Halliday, 

Michel Sardou, Claude François, Hervé Vilard, Sheila in France, Domenico Modugno, Gigliola Cinquetti, Ornella Vanoni in Italy. His compositions are performed not only by the above mentioned singers, but also by such great orchestras as the orchestra of F. Pourcel, 

Caravelli e P. Mauriat. Still in the 1976 Toto takes part in Sanremo Music Festival for the first time being a member of the group founded by him and entitled the “Albatross”. The 

song represented at the contest “Flight AZ 504” comes third. The same year Toto takes part in Festivalbar Music Festival with a song “In the Heart in the Senses”, achieving a huge success. Gérard Lenorman records the song in France, reaching the top of the hit parade.

In 1977 the “Albatross” takes part in Sanremo Music Festival again representing a new song, written by Toto, “Grand Prix”, that comes fifth.

In 1978 his creative activity takes a an important turning-point, having left the “Albatross” Toto presents him to the world as an author and a singer with a song “A Woman, My Women”, that becomes a soundtrack for a TV show of a presenter Mike Bongiorno “Let’s 

Bet On”. Toto goes up the stair of the hit parade and writes his first song for Adriano Celentano entitled “Alone”. For months this song remains an incontrovertible leader as for sales’ results.

In 1979 Toto records his first long play “I Want the Soul”, the songs from the album are performed successfully by different singers either Italian, or foreign ones.

In 1980 a huge success is waiting for Toto: he is the winner of Sanremo Music Festival with a song “Only We”, he comes first at Yamaha Song International in Tokyo with “Francesca does not know”, he also comes first as a composer at Festivalbar Music Festival with 

“Olympic Games”, performed by Miguel Bosé, and arrives fourth as the author and performer still at Festivalbar Music Festival with a song “Enamoured”. In the same 1980 

writes all of the songs for a long play “The Time Passes” for Adriano Celentano, that was 

born for a clamorous success. The same year he writes a song “Flash”, that becomes a soundtrack of Mike Bongiorno’s TV show of the same name.

In 1981 his second long play entitled “My music” is released, it was not an exception to achieve a great success; the songs from the album were performed by different foreign singers.

In 1983 Toto turns back to Sanremo Music Festival with a song “The Italian” where he wins according to the results of people’s voting “Totip” connected with the contest. This song will 

be translated into different foreign languages and performed by the singers of all parts of the world. Millions of copies are sold bringing Toto the popularity, would seem, in unthinkable countries, such as Israel, Iran, and Korea.

In 1984 Toto returns to Sanremo Music Festival with a song “Serenade” and comes second.

In 1985 Toto takes part in Sanremo Music Festival again but only as a composer with two his songs, one of them was “Venice”, performed by Louis Rodriguez, and the other was 

“We are the Youth of Today” performed by Luis Miguel, a fifteen years old fellow, who came second and became a real discovery of Sanremo Music Festival.

In 1985 Toto releases a single “I’d Like to Go to the Sea on Monday”.

The year 1986 for Toto stars with the important events: he receives the award for “The Italian” as for the most sold Italian disk in the world in the last five years and he takes part in Sanremo Music Festival once again with a song “Sweet Melancholy”.

In 1987 Toto is at Sanremo Music Festival again as an author and performer with a song “Children” comes second and as the author of the songs “I Love” performed by Fausto Leali, “The Love Song” performed by Ricchi & Poveri, “The Dreamer” performed by Peppino di 

Capri and “ I am in the Streets of Housing Estates” performed by Franco Califano. In the spring of the same year another Toto’s album “Mediterranean” is released, it will be awarded by golden and platinum disks.

The year 1987 prepares a new turning-point for Toto: now he is a presenter of a TV show “Sunday in…”, where he makes his debut with an unseen success. At the same period he takes part in Sanremo Music Festival of 1988, performing a song “Emotions”, that comes second, besides, as the author he presents a newly turned Fiordaliso with a song “For Us”.

In 1989 in the interval between the tours and TV shows he turns back to Sanremo Music Festival as a performer with a song “The Mothers”, comes second. And as the author with the songs for Fiordaliso “If I would not have You” and for Stefano Borgia (comes second among young performers).

In autumn presents a TV show “Nice to Meet You, Rai1”, that brings him a new huge success. Also he releases his third long play - a collection of soundtracks of TV shows and songs, presented at Sanremo Music Festival entitled “Toto Cutugno”.

In 1990 comes second at Sanremo Music Festival again with a song “Love”, which in the occasion was also performed by the great Ray Charles, who has shown the best of song performing. In the same 1990 Toto achieves a clamorous success; he wins the European Song Contest with a song “Together 1992” in Zagreb.

In 1991 together with Gigi Sabani he presents a TV show “Nice to Meet You, Rai1”, besides, he presents the European Song Contest, which takes place in Italy in Rome together with 

Gigliola Cinquetti, they are the only winners of the contest from Italy. In the same 1991 he presents a TV show “The Golden Sail” on Rai together with Raffaella Carra’ and Fabrizio Frizzi.

In 1992 a long play “It is not Easy to be a Man” is released, in summer Toto presents a TV show on Rai “Tonight I’ll have Fan”, and in autumn that is “Sunday in…”. Meanwhile, he writes a song “If You Love Me” that Claudia Mori presents at Sanremo Music Festival.

In 1995 Toto performs at Sanremo Music Festival again with a song “I Want to Go to Live in the Country”, that gives the name to the whole album, that is released soon after the Festival.

In 1996 Toto presents a TV show “You are Strong” for “Telemontecarlo” channel.

In 1997 Toto is at Sanremo Music Festival again with a song “Lovely Face” this composition was inserted in the album “Hidden Songs”.

In September of 1998 he returns on TV (Rai2) with a show “Your Facts”..

Since the 1999 till June of the 2000 he presents the show “Your Facts”, then the concert

tour starts, he visits Russia, Canada, Belgium, etc.

In 2001 Toto comes back to the studio to record his new CD, that will be entitled “The Train Goes”. In June of the 2002 the album “The Train Goes” is released in France and in other French speaking countries, a great number of copies is sold.

In 2003 “The Train Goes” is released in other countries, therefore, the whole 2003 Cutugno spends travelling around the world, giving concerts and promoting the album.

In 2004 Toto together with Paola Perego presents a TV show “Sanremo Summer” on Rai. Meanwhile, he turns back to the recordings studio to make a collection of songs written by him, that in different periods were performed by famous singers; the collection is taken int

account of foreign audience. The collection of songs in Italian with the imprint of the author is released being entitled “Singing”. At the same moment in France one of his songs “I Want the Soul” becomes a soundtrack for a French TV show “They will be Famous” and remains a doubtless hit parade leader for some weeks.

Taking into consideration his growing popularity in France, he is asked to perform some concerts there, starting February of 2005 with the concert in “Olympia” in Paris. The above mentioned tour had to be postponed, because of the upcoming Sanremo Music Festival, 

the manifestation, Toto is very attached to. Toto writes a song entitled “None in the World is Like Us”, it’s a very romantic composition full of senses. But it seems to him that for its excellent performing something is missing, after some tests and rehearsals it turns out to be a lack of a wonderful voice of Annalisa Minetti.

A new Toto’s CD “None in the World is Like Us” is produced by the Edel Company during the Festival week.

After the Festival Toto goes on with his world tours, performing a great number of concerts in Eastern countries, where his voice and melody become the ambassadors of Italian music culture in the world.

2008 is the year, when Toto offers the audience a wonderful song for a Sanremo Music Festival “A Falcon Closed in the Cage” and a CD with brand new compositions.

In occasion of the Festival Toto invites Annalisa Minetti to sing the new song together. The performing of the song has provoked such an emotion, that now the admirers can find both variants of the composition in the CD: two different variants to experience the unforgettable emotion.

After the Festival Toto does not stay calm, he continues travelling around the world.

In 2009 from time to time Toto comes to the recording studio where he is preparing his new CD to appear in 2010 to celebrate his 40-year anniversary as an author and 30- year anniversary as a singer.

2010 Toto starts with participation at Sanremo Music Festival with the song “Airplanes”. For the evening of duets he chooses a special guest, a famous showgirl, the main character of yellow press Belen Rodriguez.

Right after Sanremo Music Festival 2010 there is a release of a wonderful collection (CD+DVD) of our Maestro entitled “My 15 Sanremo”. A real treasure for a fan of the Great of the Italian music, the one who is a part of the story of the Festival itself.

Toto can not stay still even for a moment, the whole 2010 he travels around the world making concerts of great success.

On November 30, 2010 another release is made, it is a must have, a marvellous collection of 3 CDs that contains 55 very rare songs, entitled “Portrait”.
